For medical professionals who want to practice in an English-speaking nation, passing the OET exam is a crucial first step. There are numerous prerequisites and stages involved in preparing for the OET exam. Depending on your preferences, you can choose computer-based or conventional pen-and-paper assessments. Let’s talk about what you need to know to be ready for the OET exam.
Reservation Conditions
Healthcare practitioners take the OET exam several times a year. Before scheduling your exam time, there are a few things you should do in advance. Before scheduling the OET exam, you need have the following items:
A Digital Passport Sized Photo
When registering for the OET exam, you should be cautious and adhere to specific rules and regulations before uploading a digital passport photo. The registration would be canceled if there was an issue and the upload failed.
The uploading photo should check all these boxes:
- Passport size
- .Jpg or .png format
- Between 200KB and 2MB in size
- Coloured photograph
- White background
- Less than three months old
- Face only
- Have a sharp focus
- Should look directly at the camera
- Head coverings, if worn, must be simple in design and coloured, and should be positioned in a way that leaves the face fully visible, from the chin to the forehead, with no obstruction of the facial edges.
- No shadows should be visible
- Have no red-eye
- Only neutral expression allowed
- Be with a closed mouth (no smiling, frowning, or raised eyebrows).
An Identification Document
An identification document is required to be uploaded and presented.
List of documents required:
- Passport: You must have a current passport that has your name, birthdate, photo, and expiration date.
- National Government-Issued ID: Except for driver’s licenses, valid identification documents issued by the national government of the nation where you plan to take the OET are accepted.
- Your full name, photo, and birthdate must all appear on a single English-language national identification paper. To schedule and take the test, a certified translated copy of the national ID is needed if it is not in English.

- When scheduling and taking the test, a valid national government ID such as an EU Card is accepted. Either your passport or a national ID can be used to verify your identification on exam day.
How to book OET?
You can complete your OET booking process through these steps:
Search For Your Nearest Location
- Visit the official OET website.
- From the drop-down menu, choose where you’d like to take the OET exam.
- You can also find a location through, “find your nearest location” search option.
- Click the BOOK option on after selecting your preferred location and you’ll be redirected to the booking portal.
Book OET on Paper
- Visit occupationalenglishtest.org/myoet-login/.
- Register a myOET profile.
- Follow the instructions provided.
Follow these steps after creating profiles for OET on paper, follow these steps:
- Log into the official booking portal.
- Select the ‘Apply for the test’ option, which will require you to register and create an account if you are a first-time OET test-taker, or log in if you already have an account.
- Go through every step carefully after Completing all the requested fields.
- Review the profession, location, and times.
- Proceed to checkout.
- Fill out the card details and complete the booking.
Keep in mind that you’ll only have 15 minutes to fill in the card details to pay the OET exam fees. After the time out, it will expire.
Book Computer Based OET Exam.
If you opt to take a computer based exam, then you should follow these steps:
- Visit the official site.
- Create the OET account by following the instructions and select the test. You’ll need an ID and credit card for it.
- Complete all of the requested fields carefully without making any mistakes.
- On the booking portal, click ‘Book Your Test’ or ‘Book Now’.
- You’ll have to give consent to reading the OET Terms and Conditions and the OET Privacy Policy before moving ahead. Ensure that the details given are accurate.
- Upload your ID information, ensuring it matches the ID that you will provide on the test day.
- Proceed to the payment page and finalise the booking by paying the amount.
- You should use a computer or laptop system for booking as you won’t be able to book on a mobile.
